So, I went to the gyno last week and of course she referred me to have a mammogram done. Yes, I am of that age. This was my first one, should have had one three years ago, but we won't talk about my lack of getting to the doc regularly. Anyways, I called for an appointment and they actually had one the next day or I could wait until March 31st. I took the next day appointment. I have to admit I was pretty nervous. I really didn't want any squishing or squashing of the girls. No one made it sound the least bit pleasant when I talked to them. Well, I am happy to announce it was a breeze. Yes, a walk in the park. I am going to thank and credit this to Mary, the boob nazi. She was the one that handled the whole ordeal for me. She was late 50s, early 60s, tiny little thing, and just exuded kindness. She walked me through each part of the procedure. She made it pleasant and the actual contraption didn't really hurt at all. I asked her how long she had been doing this and she said over 20 years - it is good to have someone with experience! So, if you have been putting off your mammo due to fear, I say there is nothing to fear - go and get it done!

Glad you went, it's such an important check-up, one I've been having done since my mid 30's. That's well over 10 years now and still no complaints from me. I don't find it painful just a little uncomfortable for like 3 seconds. Small trade off for the peace of mind I feel when I get that all-clear letter in the mail.
Thanks for posting this, it's good for woman to hear that this can be a positive experience too!
Good to hear your mammo experience went smoothly :o) I need to get an appt made!
Blessings & Aloha!
Oh that's great news. No matter what I know it can be a scary appointment. Glad everythign went A-OKAY! :)
Boob nazi - ha! You are reminding me now that I am 40 that I need to go get that done. Thanks for sharing :)
Glad to know you went! When I had a mammogram done, it was not painful, and not even unpleasant. It was...odd. One's you-know-whats do not naturally find themselves in the positions they are made to assume in this procedure! But it's all good; even if it were uncomfortable, it is necessary.
Hmm...I am approaching 40 and wonder when or if I should get this done. I've always been afraid!
Wow. I must admit, I'm skeered. Also, my girls are bigger than my head. I fear for the machine. Will it be big enough to hold my girls? Will they have to photo-document such an outrageously large pair of bosoms? Will they whisper and laugh as I leave?
*skeered*
I'm glad you went and that everything was ok!
I'm glad you went and got it over with. I've had one and I agree that it wasn't bad at all.
I just saw the recipe for the lentil soup. Yum!!!!
I'm glad everything was ok.I'm over 40 and need to get a appointment too.Maybe next month :)Have a great afternoon.
I'm glad that it went well and you shared with us. I've always heard it WAS painful so now I won't be as scared when my time comes.
i've been putting mine off because of laziness.
I'm 41 and never had one. Actually haven't been to a gyno since I was 25. Doh. I have issues tho. Not sure what to do about that but maybe I'll get there eventually.
It didn't hurt??? She tried to separate my boob from my chest wall!
I am glad it went well for you! I've never had one, but this makes me feel a bit better!!
Glad to hear it's not as scary as I imagined!
This year was my first one too! Glad to hear you got on board too. Really not that bad at all.
Sounds preferable to a smear test..x
I had to get mine done early for my age group, but I had painful breasts... NOT the diagnosis that you want when you have to get your boobies squished. My tech was also very loving, but the machine did not give a crap about me.
I don't know why, but when I read the title of this post, I thought it was going to be about sports bras. Go figure!

Confessions From A Working Mom
Squish, squish! I just had mine last month! Fun, fun!
Good thing you went to have it done. Knowing me I would have put it off to the later date. I am to chicken to have one done. I still have time to wait yet.
Not only do I put off my mammo, I actually put off commenting on this post. There! Done! Feels better! Now what a shame I can't find the phone...
Glad you went for yours and all is well.
I don't know ifanyone ever told you but if you eliminate all caffeine for several days before a mammo it hurts a lot less.
And the new digital ones are soooom uch better.
I'm glad it was OK, and glad you did it!
It's so important and it seems that sometimes we just don't put ourselves first on the long list of things to do!
