Okay, since the beginning of the year, I have literally visited five or more blogs of women talking about their yearly check-up, if you know what I mean. Some have been of the age for booby squashing too. Well, I hate to admit it, but I have not been in over four years - YIKES! And I know I am of the age for the booby torture chamber. So, I made an appt. yesterday for next Wednesday. Why am I so bad about doing this yearly check-up? I have no idea, but it has to stop and now. My health is super important not only to me, but to my hubby and three kids. What about you? Do you go every year? If not, how long has it been? Will you make an appointment for March?
By the way, I only see women doctors for this exam. I know the men know what they are doing, but I just feel much more comfortable chatting about such things with another woman. What about you, does it matter?

I make sure I get a mammogram every year. I guess this relates back to my maternal grandmother who died at the age of 40 from breast cancer (of course, I didn't even get to meet her since my mom was only 16 when she died).
As for getting the other end checked, yes, I prefer a woman. My husband happens to be a physician so I'd rather not have one of his male "friends" digging around down there if you know what I mean Lol!
I have to go every year because I get the depo shot. Thankfully I have had to visit the booby torture chamber yet. I have 5 years yet and I am terrified to go for the first time.
Next month will be 2 years since I've been. I wish (not really) that I could make an appt but we don't have insurance so it's gotta be put on hold. But I'm over 30 and all of my tests have come back normal, so isn't there a new thing that you don't have to go every year if you meet those requirements? I'm not yet of age for the booby squashing and I'm so glad. That's one thing I don't look forward to!
um. i haven't been to an exam in two years. mainly because my doctor left the practice and opened up his own office. and he has a non-compete clause. and i only want to see him. so. i have one more year to go. also. it could be because i'm lazy.
I went five years before I was examined after I had my 2nd child. But I figured that since everything runs like clockwork, I only have one sexual partner and am in relatively good health, I was ok. That's not to say everyone should wait that long. Also, I'm hoping by the time I have to begin mammograms there's a new pain-free method available. I'm not much for torture.
Well I am still baby making so i go yearly right now, and hopefully soon monthly :)
I have not ever had a boobie smash but i did have to get my right gal ultrasounded a few years back due to a lump they found. By the time i go the appt scheduled though the lump disappeared!
Definitely matters - I always ask for women doctors when I go for my (dreaded) smear test.
Must must must be a woman!!!!! As a matter of fact, my doctor is a woman, period. I've been seeing her for 10+ years. If you are not on BC and you are not sexually active, a pap isn't that necessary, so you might get to skip a year sometimes, like I have. But if you are on BC, you have to be checked every year. Poo.
As for the mammogram, I am 38, but my Dr has been pestering me to go get one. I just haven't. I'm with Kearsie... I think I'll wait until there is one less painful, and less exposing. I've seen shows on TV where the woman is completely and totally naked from head to toe when she has the mammogram and I will NEVER do that in front of another living soul. It would traumatize them too much, you know.
I was supposed to go in January. Haven't been yet. But I really need to schedule it soon. I'm in my baby making years so I know I should be going every year.
As far as male or female? My OBGYN is a man and since he was just all in there not too long ago I'll obviously go back to him. We are half hazardly trying to get pregnant so my OBGYN will be my man for at least a few more years!!
Glad you made that appointment! It really is important to go!
I have to go every year because of the meds I take. I have a male obgyn. He's the same one who delivered my son. He's a great guy and easy to talk too.
I have an ok time with the Dr., but a terrible time keeping up with the dentist. I really, really need a crown, right now. I've needed one for over a year. But somehow, I just have trouble making that appointment!!
I haven't had a mammogram yet but I do get my yearly pap because I had a aunt who died of cervical cancer. My family Dr. always does my pap and she is a woman. I prefer woman dr. to when it comes to that.
I use to go yearly when I had insurance..UGH I haven't gone for 1 1/2. I need to go in soon.
I have a male doctor. To me it doesn't matter. I worked in a cardiology office for almost 8 years so I think that is why it doesn't matter.
I go every year, only to get my IUD checked. No booby squishing yet! I MUST have a woman doctor.
Yep... been there ... done that once! Will start regularly when I turn 40... but I am with you on that one... female docs just make me feel a little less 'naked'... ha ha!
Just Jenn~
Oh! Yes, I have to get that appt made and the mamo one too! And I prefer female doctors too!
Blessings & Aloha!
I have something for you...and even if you are an award free blogger or have had this one given to you already...just know that I was thinking of ya! Please come and take a peek at what it is...
Oh I go every single year. Must be the borderline hypochodriac in me. I like to go and be told, Yep, everthing is OK.
Oh and only female Docs for my private parts:)
Every year in April, I have a standing appointment with my doctor. I'm very paranoid about these things.
Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha
My oby/gyn is male...I love him since he took me through a very difficult pregnancy and trust him implicitly. He has a heart of gold and Lil Bits' health is a direct result of his attention/actions.
Now that the commercial is over, I have not had a mammogram...yet...
Glad you're going! I have my annual annually, without fail. :-) I'm not to booby-squishing yet, but it's coming soon. Next year I think, actually. I have had both male and female doctors and prefer male -- they seem to be gentler!!!
This is why I love your blog so much, you gently encourage me to do the things I really should be doing.
Thanks to your encouragement I'm back to the gym this week, eating better - but mammogram!!!
EEEEKS!
It has to be a woman for me... and I am long overdue...
Good for you! I go on a regular basis. My Dr. is a man and he is super hot! I think he's gay but I don't care. My husband thinks I'm crazy!
I've always gone to male doctors (except 1 time- I didn't like her!) but I don't know why. I guess I just feel more comfortable with a man than with a woman handling my junk...

As you know, I don't do the doctor thing-Its been 5 years for me! Yes, I would rather a woman doc than a man too. Good luck!
I go every year, although I don't always go a year from the last appointment. That means I try to put it off as long as I can.
I know it's necessary but it sucks.
Good! I'm so happy to hear you made your appointment! Save yourself from going through my ordeal, it is no fun!
As you know, I loooove my Dr. I have never had an issue with him being a male but I think that just comes from how caring and understanding he is and the fact that I have been going to him for 19 years. I can't imagine going to anyone else.
I had Caitlyn at OSU which is a training hospital basically so there were tons of people coming in and out of the room checking me out, so any ounce of modesty I had went out the window a long time ago hahaha.
This year was my first boob squishing experience. The radiologist said "At your age there are not too many things you can say you are a virgin at, but this you can." I was speechless! How did she know?
this was one of my major points for this year: follow up and thru with doctor's appts i have no health insurance so it makes it like, eh i don't want to shell out $200 for a doctor's visit.
I'm bad about that dr appt too. I just had a pap, but before that had not been since I was pregnant with my son three years ago! It's just no fun..I dread it, much like the dentist, though that I do every six months because I go with my kids.
I agree that it's super important and all women should get regular check ups. I have only had my boobs squashed once when I had a lump in one breast. That was super scary, but it turned out to be nothing. The mammogram wasn't that bad though. A little akward, but it didn't hurt.
Good for you for making the appointment. I always see a woman too.
I go every year for THAT checkup. However, I don't get a physical every year - which I probably should do too. My OB/GYN is a man. It doesn't bother me.
I have my mammogram every year! I tried getting out of it this year but my doctor said no. Over 40 you need to go in she said. I love my GYN doc. She is the greatest and is a friend also. I had a guy break my water and I could hardly spread my legs for him...it was hilarious! I feel so much better having a gal be my doctor.
good for you! and excellent public service notice!
Definitely agree on the girl doctor thing...embarrassed to say I have not been to dr. in (oh my goodness...too many years to remember...like maybe 10!) I do send hubby and kids yearly...but just hate going myself!
Take advantage of your annual checks -- in the UK they don't start annual mamograms until age 50!
