Yes, I have resorted to post-it notes imploring my children and hubby not to use certain items in the fridge, freezer, and/or pantry. Why you may ask. Well, you see if I bring something home that I need for cooking a particular recipe, I like it to be there when it is time to cook said dish. Take for example the need for a particular juice in a recipe, say apple juice. If I were to buy apple juice on Saturday intending to use it on Tuesday, there is no way I could guarantee that the four other people in the house would not have consumed the whole bottle by cooking time. Of course, I am not going to use a gallon of apple juice for my recipe, but by placing the note "DO NOT DRINK" on the apple juice upon returning from the grocery store, I have a shot. Please know that once the item has been used as intended, the post-it note is removed and the item is up for grabs.
I also have been buying special snacks for me, like Skinny Cow ice cream pops or Fiber One bars. These are low point value, enjoyable snacks. With teens in the house, these types of things are never safe. They have their own ice cream and granola bars. And honestly, when they ask to eat my stuff, I always let them. I just like to know it will be there when I want something a little special.
So, if you ever come over and peek in my fridge, pantry, or freezer, be prepared to keep your mitts off certain items. Don't worry, they are all clearly labeled.

Skinny Cow is the best! And you have to have those labels for those goods!
That seems like a great system :) Congrats on your 50lb. milestone -- that's just amazing - so excited for you! Wow Wow Wow!!!!
I might have to resort to something similar. I cannot tell you how many times I've gone in the fridge only to find something is gone! Teenagers are such little scavengars...
I've had to do that before, but it doesn't seem to stop people for long in my house
I do the same thing! The people in my house not only eat the food, they put it back empty, so I don't know it's gone til I need it.When I first saw your post, I thought the do not eat and drink stickers WERE your weight loss tips. I ought to try that one!
It seems that you have to use those labels.
Labels always help.... my kids think anything is up for grabs!!
WOW! Good for you on hitting this milestone!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who resorts to post-its to remind *other* family members to-do/not-to-do things!
And I LOVE the skinny cow snacks... but they're really expensive! I wish that healthier options could be cheaper sometimes, too :(

Confessions From A Working Mom
My son loves to eat my Fiber One bars, I had to hide them.
Dude. At my house, everyone scoffs when I say "Hey, that's mine" and eat it anyways.
So, in payback, I eat about 47 fruit snacks.
However, since I buy the fruit snacks, somehow this does not send the message across.
Wow what a great idea! I'm definitely gonna do that. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the tips on running. I really appreciated it!
Hey; a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do! I think I'm gonna have to try that Skinny Cow stuff.
I DO love a skinny cow! Good for you for labeling and good for them for listening. I look forward to the day that I can use that plan. The 3 year old, alas, is highly self sufficiant, yes I remind myself every day that this is a good trait, and helps herself to whatever she can find in the cuboard and refrigerator (yes she can open the fridge) nothing is safe. AARGH!
I love it! I need to put post it notes on everything.
Thankfully, so far my girls have not enjoyed ANYTHING low-cal or low-fat of mine. I'm sure it won't last!
It seems like a great idea to put post it notes on things...that's another idea I need to file away for the future.
By the way, I live off of skinny cows! Yum, yum!
too funny! my step mom used to use post its to help 'others' put away dishes & silver ware in the 'right' place. We used to laugh on holidays when we were in her kitchen... now that my hubs always puts things away 'wrong' ... I am tempted!!! LOL!
Jenn~
my post it notes are strangely similar
That is a riot. I haven't gotten that far, but we do have cartons of eggs labeled "hard" for the hard boiled ones. So my husband took to labeling the other ones "easy" -- just to make me smile :)
Lol, a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do!
haha! I have to laugh, cuz I have to leave post it notes to remind MYSELF what's what! and what not!
Hmmm. wouldn't it have been awesome to have "invented" those nifty notepads?
Blessings & Aloha!
I missed 50 pounds! Congratulations! I think this is a great idea and I am going to use it. I mean, come on, I buy the good stuff for me - not for my hubby and kids to eat all in one snack time! I see the post its as totally neccessary!
LOVe skinny cow... yummy I write with SHARPIE touch and die! LOL... I have to because I buy them theirs and I have mine and when I don't then you have a grumpy mommy! LOL
Post it notes are a good idea. At our house, I have a separate fridge we hide things in we do not want everyone to eat. My problem...is still stress eating...haven't really decided I want to conquer it yet. But am doing the running thing again so that is good :-) Love following your progress, though. It is inspiring.
What a great resource!
