Not To Be Out Done...

Remember last week how I told you my daughter brings so much "culture" into my life, if not check here. Well, son, age 14, had to get in on the act. I mean really if one can do it the other one can do it better or at least try. So, last week we all went to a poetry reading. Not just any poetry reading, but one where all the poets were students from son's creative writing conservatory. Son read three poems. One was about his love for Africa, he really has a special place for Tanzania in his heart since his trip there this past summer. One was about a girl he thinks is a robot because she is so cold and heartless. The last one was about fields of peace and joy. I was very proud of him that he was willing to stand up and read his work. He is usually very protective of his writings, so it was nice to have him share it. I have to admit that this was my first poetry reading, but I see there will be more in my future. Have you ever been to one?

I've never been to a poetry reading. I have been to open mic night in bars when I was in college where people read poetry but that isn't so much poetry reading as whiny angst set to occasional plucked guitar strings.

I've not been to one but how proud you must have been. Those poems were so diverse, you must have heard some interesting works.

Never been to a poetry reading but my creative daughter reads weird stories to me all the time. She wants to be a writer and really has a gift.

I think I went to one in college. I'm trying to remember. I had to do all kinds of cultural stuff then.

To add to the bragging about your son - I was told that when all the upperclassmen were hemming and hawing about getting up, YOUR son would just whip out a poem and stand up and share - a true leader as well as a poet!

Good for him! That's wonderful. I've never been to one, but have been to several Open Mike Nights. Always interesting :)

No, I haven't but I would imagine that hearing it in person would be so much nicer than reading it from a book.
