Culture Club

Do you remember Boy George and Culture Club? If you are a child of the 80's you do. I wish this post was about music choices of our youth, but sadly it is not. I say sadly because I am about to admit to you and the blogosphere that any "culture" I may have all comes from my daughter, a mere 16 years old. My daughter is the one that drags me to operas, not the other way around. I'd be happy staying home and watching a The Princess Bride for the umpteenth time. My daughter is the one that speaks French to me and makes even mundane things like "what time is it" sound special. My daughter is the one that makes me watch subtitled French movies. She made me watch one this past weekend and it was depressing with only a slight glimmer of hope at the end. The last one she had me watch was just depressing. My daughter is the one that introduced me to brie - YUM! I could go on, but I won't. I love my daughter and enjoy when she invites me into her "cultured" world. What have your children taught you?

I think I'm just like you, loved Boy George and the 80's. So far my 3 1/2 year old has taught me patience, Boy do I need it now!

I've been around both 'cultures'. I'm just too 'straight laced' to fit in with the one, and too relaxed to fit in with the more cultured culture. (Did that make sense?)

Hello BOY george is awesome! 80's rocked!

That is too sweet. My doctor introduced me about 9 years ago to brie, I was like wth is this. I remember going to a fancy restaurant for the first time with him and they served a salad and to me it looked like leaves.. LMAO... ok I grew up poor and the only salad we had was wilted lettuce and some tomatoes.. ROFL

I said what is this? he said salad, I said but it looks like grass and leaves and he says just eat it you will like it.... LMAO... I know I lived a sheltered world.... Introduced me to different wines, cheeses and salad LMAO.....

All this at of 29 :)

Boy George rocked it HARD in the 80's! Loved them.

My young adult has taught me to make extra mac & cheese, and even if I think it's enough, it's not.

They teach me daily that I don't know anything. Just when I think I've got this mothering thing figured out, they go and change the rules on me.

Sweet! Your daughter knows who she is!!! and wants to share!

The culture I learned from my sons is the music of Echo and the Bunnymen! A year ago I took them to NYC to see this group. Priceless!

While I was certainly part of the 80's, I never really enjoyed Culture Club. I was more Bon Jovi.

I have no culture at all now and left in the boys hands I know all about how to defeat any Lego Wii game out there

Oh yes, I remember the Culture Club.

Right now my kids are teaching me about Dora and Nerf...not my idea of culture. But I do learn new things every day through homeschooling and I really enjoy that. It's like getting a second education...in all the things I wasn't interested in the first time around :D

My daughters correct my (nonexistent) French. Very annoying.
