Kilimanjaro List

With my youngest off to Boy Scout camp yesterday, it is time to finish up the Kilimanjaro preparations for David-13. I made a list and hope to update it as I go along. Here is what needs to be accomplished in the next 9 days, hopefully sooner rather than later.

1.) Purchase slip on sneakers (I thought this would be best with all the airport security they will encounter - easy on and off) - done 7/21

2.) Over the counter medications (Tylenol, diarrhea meds, etc.) - done 7/21


3.) Cash for the trip in small bills (He won't have to exchange money in Tanzania as they prefer American money, but will in England)

4.) Passport holder - done 7/24

5.) VISA Buxx (this is a prepaid credit card type thing that will be good in England - just found out about it, so not sure 9 days is enough time to get one) - arrived 7/27

6.) Work gloves (He will be doing two service projects in Africa - planting trees and making bricks) - done 7/21


7.) Hat (he needs a new one with a strap to keep it on his head in winds) - done 7/24

8.) Couple of lightweight, long sleeve shirts - done 7/22

9.) Couple of lightweight long pants - done 7/26

10.) Boy Scout pants to wear with his Class A uniform he must wear during all travel portions of the trip - done 7/22

11.) Return new -0- degree sleeping bag he no longer needs as they are staying in heated huts on the mountain - lap of luxury - done 7/24

12.) Soak certain clothing items in the anti-bug juice we bought - done 7/27

13.) Buy new hiking poles (he has some, but they no longer collapse, not a problem locally, but need to collapse for packing purposes) - done 7/21


14.) Get him some new books (He will have lots of time to read on the airplane and during layovers, plus they are not allowed any electronics to occupy their time) - done 7/21

15.) Buy gifts for the host families in Tanzania and England - this is a hard one - any suggestions?- 7/27

I can probably call on the VISA Buxx today and layout a strategy to get the rest done starting tomorrow.
