That Was Unexpected...

This morning at church the children's department put on a presentation during service. That was expected. Each year the pre-K thru sixth graders go up and do something. Some years it is a full on production with parts, lines, songs, costumes, etc. Other years it is the kids leading the congregation in a few songs. This year they were all in costume and recited a poem about the birth of Jesus and then sang a few songs. It was really cute and brought a little something special into the service.

What I did not expect was me getting a little teary-eyed. I wasn't bawling or anything, just a little misty. Why you may ask. Because I was suddenly hit with the realization that my baby, who was a Wiseman today, will never be in this little Christmas show again. You see he is a sixth grader and this is it, he is done, finished, hasta la vista baby with the children's Christmas productions. He will be in the youth group next Christmas - sniff, sniff. I really did not expect to feel so disappointed by this, but I do.

As I saw him standing there - I think he was the tallest one in the group - as an official Wiseman, I remembered back to his first big Christmas production probably seven years ago when he was a Wiseman in Training in that performance - he stole the show with how cute he was and how funny, okay maybe I am a little biased and I am remembering it my way, but he was just adorable. So, to have him be an official Wiseman in this his last show was very appropriate.

As I write this I wonder if I could fail him this year and keep him in sixth for next year too, just so I could see him in another Christmas show - I do homeschool, it is possible. Hmmmm.....the wheels are turning...
